Today is the day I shamelessly promote the blogs of "Some," (making sure I qualify this just in case I accidently forget someone.) or my best blogsphere buddies. Eh, now I know why I haven't made CNN's Blog report! A... [Read More]

There are a lot of hopeful signs in the blogoshpere in the number of women who have become active and engaged, more hope than there was in the past.

The trends analyst John Nesbitt, years ago made the prediction that if there was any hope for the American system of government that it would it would come from women entering into politics.

He based his remarks on the notion that after the assination of John Kennedy and others, the high calibre men began to go into business rather than into politics. Women on the other hand had not yet discovered their own political voice and had not been conquered by their cynacism about the political process.

What he didn't forsee, or at least take into account was two fundamental principles that if unspoken have at least operationally in action.

1. There is nothing like the oppression of the oppressed. In politics... the womens movement shifted from liberational to reactionary mode. Groups like NOW became the lesbian man bashing club for a lengthy period of time, which alienated a lot of women and male supporters. In business they mimicked the men and became like a sad parody... they became harder than nails and oddly enough... harder on other women than the men were.

2. Women don't seem to trust other women. This is a very curious phenomena. It can be seen in politics very distinctly. Every strong independent woman is a lightening rod for other women... not just insecure men.

The hope I see is that the blogosphere allows many more voices of women to be heard. I hope that it will lead to new types of consensus among women... rather than allowing a few feminine symbols to put one of a few faces on the women's movement.

It also can allow new types of dialogue and I think more of the message can be heard rather than focusing on the messenger.

Thanks for mentioning this. I'll be there, unless something untoward happens.

Shoot. I would have liked to crash this meeting (i'm nearby in newark, nj), but i'm otherwise occupied tonight. Looking forward to a post on the non-top-secret things that are discussed :>

Omigosh, what fun! And what a great idea. Maybe me and Sister Scorpion could get something like this going here.

Are you all going to drink too much coffee and stay up too late? Or ... just drink?

I'll be thinking of you all while I'm resowing the tomatoes and basil I accidentally murdered last night, after weeks of careful nurturing and worry. :-(

Looking forward to meeting you, Lindsay! The venue kinda freaks me out, though. :) I'll be bringing blank nametags...

I'll be bringing blank nametags...

She will! I know from firsthand experience.

But what's all this nonsense about women bloggers?

Is this going to be a regular thing? I'm moving to an apartment one block from this place on the 27th. Even if it's not in the area, if anyone does live close it would be fun to schedule another blogger meet up in a few weeks. Drop me a line if you're interested.

I've been working on a blogroll and posts over at Preemptive Karma in an effort to highlight women who write about politics.

The blogroll is a work in progress. Please..please...PLEASE....come over and check it out. I'm looking for suggestions for additions so please email me with your ideas.
