Baby Tales

How old would you think this baby is given that he weighs 48 pounds (22 kilograms)? He is actually only 11 months old! This poor kid in Calcutta consumes 5 liters of milk and 1 kilogram of rice-flour every single day. Apparently he suffers from a rare hormonal disorder. [Via the AP]
It sounds as if it could possibly be Prater-Willi Syndrome (a genetic disorder), which can have developmental and retardation implications as well.

I saw a really interesting program on the Discovery Channel called "Archie, the 55 Pound Baby" about a boy in England who had a super-rare metabolic disorder called MoMo (I think). They were able to find one other kid in the world who had it and had survived childhood -- she was in Brazil.
That's another possibility. It can affect vision and development, but apparently it doesn't affect mental development too badly (though they can't really say, considering how few cases have cropped up).
