I'm struck by this quote:
"If I worked back late my host, instead of paying me overtime, Mwould buy me a four-pack of bourbon..."
Do our Aussie mates drink bourbon by the can? If so, then I'm definitely going to have to get over my hesitations about 14 hour plane rides and fly down there as soon as possible.

Paid in bourbon? How did I miss that dreamjob posting?

What's a 4-pack of bourbon?

Poor lad. Who wants to get paid in reactionary southern politicians?

They actually do make bourbon in a can (well, coke and bourbon, at least):

And it is quite popular in Australia. As far as over here in the U.S., though, it's only available in some states:

Hmm... I was surprised to see that the Jim Beam product you mention actually contains Jim Beam, since, as they say on the website:
Check their labels - there's no whiskey...no rum...no vodka in those products - just flavored malt. Not exactly what you would expect given the familiar spirit name on the bottle.
But I think in this case, a 4-pack of bourbon probably means four bottles of actual bourbon. At least, I hope so, otherwise the kid got totally screwed.
