Puppy blood
It all started innocently enough: Eugene Volokh affirmed that the Iraqi insurgency is bad and emphasized that Westerners who make excuses for brutal theocratic thuggery are bad, too. He acknowledged, when pressed, that there are very, very few Westerners in this category, but insisted that these people are nevertheless bad. Bravo.
I know we've been talking a lot about unity lately, but as a Highly Principled Individual, I felt compelled to denounce Belle Waring for implying that some Republicans drink puppy blood. She is already suitably contrite, and my piling on her doesn't really add much. But I'd like to think that something good can still come out of this whole puppy blood debacle --like an opportunity for me to publicly cultivate intellectual virtue.
Anyway, we Democrats have to learn to play hardball with people like Belle. I say we punish her with a big ol' Koufax Award.

Come on, Belle is obviously not being serious. No one would drink the blood of a pure-bred English Bulldog puppy like that.
Pure-breds are best savored on their own in order to taste the delicate, unique accents, usually as an after-dinner drink. The less expensive blood of mixed breeds is more adaptable to Bloody Marys and similar cocktails.

Come on, give the Republicans a break. If they didn't drink puppy blood, they'd have to switch to human babies.

I'd like to condemn the kind of moronic Democrat who makes funny, indeed hilarious jokes about the murder of fifty-odd civilians on the London Tube- y'know, funnee jokes like 'Boom Town' (following that up with the adolescent pouty-rebel line 'all puns intended').
Fortunately, however, such American Democrats - ignorant enough to laugh at the victims of 'brutal theocratic thuggery'- are
so outrageously stupid and morally contemptible, that they only exist in the fevered imaginings of rightwing nutters. On the other hand, I hear there's an unattractive Canadian blonde who does come out with that kind of sewage.

I have to admit, I'm weak. I tried to drink puppy blood, but couldn't, and Alan Greenspan himself voted me out of the local Randian mutual appreciation club.I dunno, I must be a loser for one reason or another. Guess I have to hang out here.

I suggest that we follow Sean Carroll's lead.
"Not to pile on, but I can’t help but offer my own humble contribution to the rare-but-worthy-of-scorn category. To wit, we should condemn Republicans who attempt to justify the capture and long-term detention of prisoners who are denied counsel and not charged with any crime, and then tortured, sometimes to death, in a misguided attempt to extract useful intelligence from them, even though they may be perfectly innocent. Likewise, Republicans who make fun of such practices by selling witty T-shirts. Oh, and those who advocate public torture of criminals in order to satsify the public’s bloodlust — wouldn’t want to forget them.
Of course, nobody would suggest that such people comprise a vast group. So? They are still worth condemning."
