Carlos Barria for Pulitzer
The competition is fierce, but this picture by Carlos Barria of Reuters is the most evocative photo of the 2005 hurricane season I've seen so far.

Here Lies Vera and and the one I call "DROWNED" are just incredible. I did a 'remix' of some of the best images and text at
http://www.culturekitchen.com/archives/003430.html
Sometime I'll turn this remix into a .MOV. If anybody wants to do it, go ahead and knock yourselves out.
I blogged some of the best I found on Flickr here

I like that one you picked, but, to tell the truth, I've lived through floods like that, so I don't find it that moving. All I can think of is, soggy shoes! (Too many floods have left me with an abject dislike of soggy shoes).
It's the pictures of the dead ... those just threw me into a loop. I can't imagine anything like that ... actually, now I can.

You might want to go to BAGnet Note, and check out the photos by Alan Chin. He shot in B & W too, and it makes a big difference. He also has posted on why and how he took some of his photographs.
