You mean his name is actually Darcy James Argue? What a cool name!

You know, Mandos, you are the first person I've ever met who thinks that. (Er, other than my parents, I can only assume… )

Mandos, I assume, is from "Hands of Fate". My own handle, Njorl, is from the saga. Whither Thad?

Way back in junior high jazz band, we played a chart ("Us") by a guy named Thad Jones. Not only had I never heard of him, I'd never even heard the name "Thad" before, and I loved the sound of it. I started using it as an alias on BBS's, and later, on Salon's Table Talk, and I've used it ever since. At the time I started using it, I really had no idea that Thad Jones's music would become such a huge influence on my life -- I just thought it was a cool name.

Well, anyone with a last name of "Argue" is cooooooool! I mean, it fits into the whole theme of this web site, which is where I first started reading you. Darcy James Argue sounds like it could be a Canadian founding father or something. You really need to grow out those long, fuzzy sideburns.

Mandos is from the Silmarillion. Might be from other things, but it's definitely from the Silmarillion. The Vala of Doom.

Hey my name really IS Thad and here I was feeling all kindred spirit and all at seeing another one posting here.

Since this is apparently Comment on Old Posts Week at Majikthise, I'll join in:

If I wasn't a Thad Jones fan before hearing "The Deacon" on Breakfast Dance and Barbecue, then that did it for me. I went out and got a few CDs by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, including one with "Us", and I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
