Weiner concedes

There will be no runoff -- it's officially Ferrer vs. Bloomberg.

"We must start getting behind Freddy Ferrer right away," he said, "if we are to beat a Republican like Mayor Bloomberg." He called his concession "the right thing to do."

Apparently Eliot Spitzer had a hand in persuading Weiner to take one for the team. Steve Gilliard imagines what that phone call might have sounded like.
