« DeLay Perp Walk Money Shot 2 | Main | DeLay's lawyer lies about MoveOn T-shirts »

October 21, 2005

Perp Walk update

Stay tuned for the full photo essay: The stakeout, DeGuerin's surprise appearance, the perp walk, the courtroom, the MoveOn reference, the press conference.

Many more photos, TK.

Basically, DeLay's lawyer, DeGuerin, asked Judge Bob Perkins to recuse himself because the judge had given money to various Democratic causes including MoveOn. DeGuerin made a big deal about how MoveOn is selling t-shirts with DeLay's mugshot on them. Of course Perkins donated this money back in 2004. So, Perkins referred the issue to a superior judge.

And that was it for today. Full story as soon as we can get home and upload the pictures on a reasonably fast connection. We keep timing out.

I don't know what the Texas rule is, but a judge here in NYC would have banged DeGuerin over the head for a recusal request like that ...

Re : DeLay's mug on MoveOn shirts - 'taint so

Also, MoveOn isn't selling any such T-shirts, and never have. The only such that I know of are being sold by The White House Officious Gift Shop, and those aren't even using the real mug shot.

thanks for the excellent coverage, girlfriend. i wasn't able to make it down this week, and your pics are making my day. =)

Lindsay-

you are so cool. Thanks for all your great work! Hey, if you're still down here in Texas, come on over to San Antonio and get some REAL Mexican food.

Glorious.

Great work. Though it's upsetting that DeGuerin didn't get grabbed by the ears and get "OVERRULED" screamed into his face.

Is it possible that the judge doesn't want to tangle with the DeLay GOP machine? And the judge sees this (even if it's a garbage) charge of MoveOn liberalism as his out?

Should we all push back that DeLay will only accept being tried for money laundering by a judge appointed by George W. Bush and vetted by Harriet Miers - to make sure it's as friendly as possible - because he's a damn coward...

DeGuerin a Democrat? Not where his political donations over the last few years are concerned, any way!

From OpenSecrets.org:

DeGuerin's 2005 donations (so far):

DEGUERIN, DICK ATTORNEY 4/25/05 $400
HOUSTON,TX 77002

Recipient: Hutchison, Kay Bailey

DEGUERIN, JANIE INTERIOR DECORATER 4/25/05 $400
HOUSTON,TX 77002

Recipient: Hutchison, Kay Bailey

And here's DeGuerin's 2003 and 2004 donations:

DEGUERIN, DICK ATTORNEY 5/14/03 $1,000
HOUSTON,TX 77002

Recipient: Hutchison, Kay Bailey

DEGUERIN, DICK ATTORNEY 1/14/04 $1,000
HOUSTON,TX 77002

Recipient: Hutchison, Kay Bailey

DEGUERIN, DICK ATTORNEY 1/14/04 $1,000
HOUSTON,TX 77002

Recipient: Hutchison, Kay Bailey

DEGUERIN, DICK ATTORNEY 5/17/04 $1,000
HOUSTON,TX 77002

Recipient: Poe, Ted

DEGUERIN, JANIE INTERIOR DECORATER 1/14/04 $2,000
HOUSTON,TX 77002

Oh, and wasn't Hutchison one of his clients?

Lindsay-

I posted a short piece and linked to this blogpost on my blog, but I keep getting a trackback pinging error message. It doesn't interfere with the blog post or the link, but it also doesn't ping you on the trackback. Just an FYI.

DeGuerin's a registered Dem, but an equal-opportunity ho.
