Oh-Sen: Three new articles and a ceasefire
Christopher Hayes profiles Sherrod Brown for In These Times, Ezra Klein takes the pulse of the netroots in the Brown/Hackett race, and Paul Hackett makes this month's Esquire.
[Hat tip to Left In The West.]
In other Hackett meta-news, Dave Sirota and Tim Russo agree to lay off the personal attacks during the Democratic primary. I applaud their efforts to break the circular firing squad. I'm also nominating this pact for "Truce least likely to hold past Thanksgiving."

Yeah, Sirota's quite a fiery guy. My exchange with him was pretty intense. But I'm happy to see that he's (at least temporarily) in a trucey mood with somebody.
Lindsay, is there anything you can do to convince me and wonks far greater than myself that Hackett will be a reliable supporter of national health care? Stuff like this from Brown makes me pretty sure that he's on the side of the angels here. Hackett talks a good libertarian game on social issues (and guns), but I want to be sure that he's willing to seriously bring in government in when the market fails.

Neil--
The fact is, if you want to be sure you have to go with a guy who has a track record. If you like Brown's politics, then the only reason to go with Hackett is electability.
As for the Sirota/Russo exchange, I have to say that Russo really came off as an angry halfwit. To tell a person from Montana that he's not allowed to comment on Ohio politics because outsiders just can't understand how to talk to gun-toting rural rednecks is just asinine. Does he understand that Dayton has more people than Montana?

I seriously doubt Hackette will go as far as 'national healthcare'. Is sherrod's plan of national healthcare something that is implementable (not wishfull thinking)? Or is this pure 'we gonna give free ponies and flying cars for everybody' type of soundbite?
from what I notice, hackette economic point of view is rather OHIO oriented so far. he doesn't have extensive national platform that I can recall. He seems to be genuinely concern about welfare of worker in OHIO. So I suppose one only can extrapolate that to his national decission when the time comes.

Gordo, Hackett ought to try to convince Democrat of this stuff.
Lemon, I doubt that Brown has offered a specific plan. But there are lots of countries that have national health care, where everything is cheaper and better than it is here. We pay more per capita than any other country, even those that insure everybody. For more info on single-payer health care, look here. What I want from Hackett is that he show willingness to jump on board if a good proposal is made.
