General Wes Clark
General Wes Clark speaking at YKos.
Clark strongly criticized religious fundamentalists who believe faith and science are incompatible. He denounced religious leaders who attempt to distort the scientific record and warp the educational system to reflect their narrow readings of scripture.
Clark also had strong words for would-be proselytizers who go after American troops. He said that parents of soldiers had complained to him about zealots telling their kids that they were going to hell. Clark said that officials who tell troops they're going to hell for not toeing the spiritual line belong in jail.

I LOVE General Clark!!! I wish he'd run for President again! He's soooo perfect for the position! I got to watch Barb Boxer on cspan 2 from Vegas earlier and she was also GREAT!! I wish I could have made the trip! LUCKY, lucky you!! Thanks for posting pix of the General!

"Clark strongly criticized religious fundamentalists who believe faith and science are incompatible."
They have not-so-strange bedfellows who believe in the same incompatibility; that belief deserves strong criticism whoever holds it.

Yeah, that was one of the speech's high points. Definitely better than saying that in the Cold War science was important in order to defeat "godless communism" that "threaten[ed] our way of life."

Ugh, yet another brilliant speech that I missed. Sigh. I think I'm going to spend tomorrow afternoon watching YearlyKos on Cspan, wishing I was in Vegas...
