Did Christopher Hitchens admit that he and other reporters sandbagged Howard Dean?

Christopher Hitchens' dinner party outburst occured after a guest made a "passing but sympathetic remark" about Howard Dean, saying he felt Dean was unfairly maligned by the media.

Hitchen's reply:

Dean was "a raving nut bag," [Hitchens said]...then he corrected himself: "A raving, sinister, demagogic nutbag...I and a few other people saw that he should be destroyed.

So, Hitch just admitted that he and some of his media colleagues deliberately destroyed Howard Dean? I'm going to buy the print magazine and see whether the author followed up on that admission.

Howard Dean is a raving nut bag. And anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear knows this. The American public didn't need Christopher Hitchens to tell them this.

Dean, as a Presidential candidate or as party leader, has been the best secret weapon the "Rethugs" ever had.

But why say he's destroyed? I thought that he, with his 50 state strategy, was going to lead the Democrats to a takeover of both House and Senate. Senator Lamont told me so just the other day!!

The results of the Midterm elections will show the reaction of the electorate to the past few years. The United States as war monger. The electorate as idiots.
When the leading light of freedom and human rights dims so to allow the election to the most important office
in the USA of the least qualified candidate and the outright theft of the honor of our nation we are all guilty. A drunken sot like Mr. Hitchens may be excused as not having the mental capacity necessary for rational thought. However, the electorate while being stripped of its voting rights by such scum as Mr. Rove
and his enablers in Florida and Ohio for example need only excercise due diligence and register and vote.

Why do you say Dean is a "nutbag"? Because he opposed Bush's war in Iraq? He was right on that issue. Because he screamed in a room full of screaming people? Bad luck for him the media was using a background-noise suppression microphone that made it sound like he was the only one making noise.

I supported Dean because I thought he would be the best candidate. The "people who know better" for some reason thought Dean could not win and saddled us with inept Kerry instead. Thanks!

I have no problem with the lovely state of Vermont. And I was not a fan of Dean even before the infamous scream. Though I did see it live, and it was weird and horrifying to watch. It was like seeing a tv evangalist on crack, that glint in his eye.

His opposition to the war is fine. That's a defensible position, and if he took it early, then good for him.

Why do I think he's nuts? Well, some of the things that he said kinda will give you an idea.

A politician trying to bring his party shouldn't say things like "I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for", which immediately alienates many potential converts.

There are many tone deaf, wrong and mangled remarks "The truth is the President of the United States used the same device that Slobodan Milosevic used in Serbia. When you appeal to homophobia, when you appeal to sexism, when you appeal to racism, that is extraordinarily damaging to the country." --I wouldn't know where to start, my friend.

A buddy at work married a Japanese girl, and the family back outside of Osaka really accepts him. He parties with father in law and everyone else during annual visits.
