Murdered Russian journalist's last work published

Anna Politkovskaya's expose of torture in Chechnya was published posthumously. The article describes extraordinary rendition and torture of suspected Chechen fighters by pro-Moscow security forces.

Independent subscribers can read the full translation of Politkovskaya's final article.

The 48-year-old journalist was murdered by a contract killer. Her former newspaper is investigating her death. Various motives for the killing have been suggested--Politkovskaya may have been targeted for exposing human rights violations in Chechnya, or for threatening  the economic interests in the oil industry.
