House Majority Leader continues to blame the military for losing war

Yesterday, on CNN, House Majority Leader John Boehner blamed the US military for losing the war in Iraq:

House Majority Leader John Boehner: Wolf, I understand that, but let's not blame what's happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld.

Wolf Blitzer: But he's in charge of the military.

House Majority Leader John Boehner: But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge and he works closely with them and the president. [CNN, 11/1/06]

Given an opportunity to take back that comment, Boehner elected instead to stay the course.

A Boehner spokesman later insisted that blaming the military for losing the war is not criticizing the military.

Where are all the rightwingers demanding an apology?

What Boehner said basically was; There's pleanty of blame to go around, and some of that blame can be laid at the troops.

What else could he have been saying? Why is it ok when republican's don't support the troops?

Oy vey. The GOP is really grasping at straws if they think the Dolchstoss flimflam can be sold this way. They're like a drunk trying to hawk some worthless piece of crap to passersby on the sidewalk outside of a bar to get cash for another drink. Pathetic.

meanwhile, a brave soul at Crooked Timber, who reads the National Review so that I don't have to, finds one honest conservative's [Derbyshire's] opinion about Kerry's foot-in-mouth disease "...My pleasure in watching JK squirm is just as great as any other conservative’s, but something is owed to honesty. There’s a lot of fake outrage going round here."

I think it's really the fault of the damn grunts for dying inefficiently. I mean it couldn't be the fault of a guy who wears a suit everyday rather then fatigues!

I believe that Boehner doesn't think anyone actually needs to be blamed for anything because, quite simply, we're winning the war. Operation Enduring Extinction is going exceedingly well. Between civil war and mass exodus there will be no more Iraqis left in Iraq in a few years. Peace will then bloom like flowers in the Spring, and oil will flow like the rivers of blood currently found on Baghdad streets. Then we can invade Iran. Then North Korea. Then Venezuela. Then France. Then Switzerland. Then St. Kitts and Nevis....

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

>The GOP is really grasping at straws if they think the Dolchstoss flimflam can be sold this way.

Although they do seem to live by the "one born every minute" philosophy. Well--if someone buys it, then I'm lighter by a pound of bullshit, and heavier by a dollar!
