Candy buttons? When I was of the age to covet them (circa 1962) they were called "measles".

In one of my favorite kids' books, "Then There Were Five," this caterpillar is described as "the big job with all the buttons." Now I see why.

Maybe I'm dating myself, but it looks rather like someone with all those old fashioned styling salon hair curlers of different sizes (hence colours)helmeting their head.
