Pope Ratz
Jo-mentum propelled Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger to Papacy 265.
His pope name will be Benedict--but he'll always be Pope Ratz to me.
Alas, the pope opera came to an end too quickly. I was hoping for at least another day of saturation coverage.
Ouch. Good luck stalling the bookie.

As a former Catholic, I feel sorry for my Catholic friends. This cat is closely associated witht he right wing Catholic group, Opus Dei.
I fear for the future of my former religion.
I guess I'll have to pray of my friends and that the OD's don't have a Gestapo.

On the other hand, he's 78...so we'll likely be doing this again in the not-so-distant future.

Good point, chris. Lindsay: See if you can go for double or nothing.

Why don't they just change the title to Fuhrer, keep it short and simple.

Because Ratzinger's brand of totalitarianism is different enough from Nazism. Nobody calls Mussolini a Fuehrer.

Is this a sign that the "rapture" is almost here? Or just that we are due to repeat the Dark Ages?

As a very moderate Catholic, I too was disappointed with this selection. I am not so much concerned with the views we believe to be his, but that he seems to be egging on those who would wish to be exclusive rather than inclusive.

The Ratzingers did not actively or openly or actually protest the Nazi regime or its ideology.
A shameful vote. A reactionary religion. Nothing to see here, folks, keep moving...

(from the "pueraria mirifica" website) .."Warning: It should not be used in pregnant women, nursing cervix mothers, or women diagnosed with tumors in estrogen-sensitive organs, e.g., ovary, uterus and breast.."-
Unfortunately, there are no pictures of "nursing cervix mothers"... O woe, woe, etc ^..^
