Jeb Bush sics prosecutor on Schiavo

Let me adapt and repurpose a phrase from a patriotic American: If I read this to you and did not tell you that it [was the Governor of Florida maliciously prosecuting an innocent man 15 years after the tragic collapse of his wife to settle a political score], you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings.

Discrepancies in timing of Schiavo 911 call to be investigated

TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday that a prosecutor has agreed to investigate why Terri Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago, citing an alleged gap in time between when her husband found her and called 911.

"It's a significant question that during this ordeal was never brought up,'' Bush told reporters, saying he wasn't suggesting any wrongdoing by Michael Schiavo.

That is very scary -- the stuff of police states. Is it a desperate attempt to validate the embarrassing, idiotic crusade Jeb engaged in? Could it be a preemptive action to blunt the bundle of lawsuits Michael Schiavo may file?

"Those several hundred missing children in Florida foster care that it took me four years to act on? What about them?"

I was wondering what the statute of limitations might be, but then I realized I couldn't even figure out what crime they'd charge him with. Neglient 911 calling?

What about them?

None of them is now, or has ever been, a Pretty White Woman. Therefore, the state and the media have no legitimate interest in their whereabouts.

This is shows what a petty man Jeb Bush is. This is either payback on Michael Schiavo or Bush is willing to jail Michael Schiavo for the sack of a 2008 presidential run. What a truly pathetic man.

Or put through the bulls*it filter...

TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday that a prosecutor has agreed to investigate why Terri Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago, citing an alleged gap in time between when her husband found her and called 911. The autopsy report is in and it is clear that we were talking out of our ass. However, we do see one potential last smear of her husband and we feel it is in our long-term political interest to keep the focus on him, rather than me.

"It's a significant question that during this ordeal was never brought up,'' Bush told reporters, saying he wasn't suggesting any wrongdoing by Michael Schiavo, he was infering it to try to please his extremist right-wing nutjob bosses after his dismal performance and inability to save Terry- as he had been commanded to do.

The first comment above, by ADS, is the significant one. This is exactly the technique used in totalitarian states to suppress the people. But, then we all knew the Bushies were fascists anyway.

payback on Michael Schiavo

Sounds more like payback for Klaus von Bulow. Seriously, I feel like they're taking their cues from "Reversal of Fortune." "Why did he wait over an hour to call 911?" Maybe a movie with Terri Schiavo from-in-coma voice-over would clear all this up.

What I find sickly amusing is the idea that the insurance company somehow missed all this at the malpractice trial. Do Jeb and the others think insurance companies just hand out money every time there's a claim? (Well, OK, given his background, maybe Jeb DOES think that.)

If the claims of abuse were at all credible they would have come out at the trial. Unless, of course, the parents and all other witnesses, medical profesionals, legal professionals, judge, and insurance company were all in a diabolical plot to give a large amount of money to the man they all suspected of beating his wife into a coma . . .

Do Jeb and the others think insurance companies just hand out money every time there's a claim? (Well, OK, given his background, maybe Jeb DOES think that.)

Hippodameia, Jeb tried to buy an NFL football team without money. That didn't work out too well for him. Most of Jeb's personal wealth is tied into his condo. Without the Gov gig he be broke. I hate to say this, but Dubya is the smart one with the speech impediment.

My impression is they're using a recent comment of MS's against him. So it wouldn't have been an issue at trial, I guess.

Jeb knows he's full of shit. This is a bone thrown to the rabid wingnuts--Even the governor of Florida *secretly* knows that Michael Schiavo killed his wife. He plotted for her to have bulemia and then a heart attack and the evidence is that someone alleged somewhere that he didn't call the ambulance right away!

Lindsey:

Quick catch - was just about to add comment/link in your prior post on the NYRB Didion article.

I was wondering why the ME speculated (I think "reached" is the word) on the 1990 event in the autopsy - not that there would ever be political pressure in such a case in a state like Florida.

Well, can we agree that smart is relative in that family?

My point is I doubt any member of the Bush family has ever had much trouble with insurance claims. It's possible that Jeb doesn't realize how carefully insurance companies vet claims. It's also possible that tomorrow Jeb will resign and take up residence in a correctional institution.

Dear Jeb Bush,

You have every right to be concerned and call for an investigation. When someone is faced with tragedy, I think we all would want them to react quickly and appropriately, rather than sitting around and apparently doing nothing for several minutes.

To that end, I would like to make you aware of something. Several years ago, in an elementary school in your state, the President of the United States was reading children's books in the company of first graders. A White House aide whispered in the President's ear that the United States was being attacked. The President did nothing for about seven minutes.

Could you have the prosecutor look into this? I'm not suggesting any wrongdoing, but I think we owe it to those who perished that day.

Thanks.

Yours, etc.

Bongo has it exactly right. I live here in Bushville (Tallahassee), and this is nothing more than grandstanding by Jebba the Harsh, so in 2008 he can say to the Dobson gang "Hey, I did all I could."

And remember, anyone who runs in 2008 needs the approval of Dobson...

Jeb... the village idiot! The more he garbs the tar baby as another poster called it, the worse it is for the GOP. You'd think he would have been smart enough to figure that one out... "Blind Lemon" Frist certainly has!

There is no statute of limitations on murder. If he could have saved her then it is murder
/fundie

jeb is a hack.

" If he could have saved her then it is murder"

Actually, I believe all good Samaritan laws have been shot down. You are not required to help people unless you are their guardian. Even so, I'm sure it is all bullshit, but there probably isn't even any grounds for raising this bullshit.

Now, THIS is over reaching.

Of course, he can't win in '08 w/out the religious right. No republican can win w/out them. That's why I hope Judge Roy Moore runs in the primarys, and why I don't think a McCain/Hillary face off would be so disasterous for progressives.

What do they plan on charging him with? Wouldn't it have to be murder? Anything else would have a statute of limitations, right?

While it does not shock me, I find it deeply perverted. It shows either a) how inhuman Jeb Bush is, or B) how self-deluded he is, or c) both a and b.

I cannot imagine this will poll well with anyone beyond a small minority of nutjobs who think God could still have regenerated her brain in a miracle. If Congress passing a special law polled positively in the high teens and low twenties, a governor persecuting a husband vindicated by a state autopsy has got to over like a lead balloon. I am inclined to think b, that Jeb had drunk enough kool-aid, he cannot now admit his previous foolishness. He trapped himself and so he does what Bush's always do, keep doing the same shit and act like its courage instead of fear and loathing.

Jeb thinks the first thing you do when finding your unconscious wife on the floor is to look at your watch.

No one on earth can tell me that *this* polled well and when these asshats aren't running policy by poll they are taking their orders directly from the religious frauds that run those multi-million dollar scams that keep their lie mill running 24/7

They screwed the pooch on the initial episode, seems like stupid Jeb is heading in the same direction on this one. Oh well, he can always get a job with Carlyle or with "Ignite!"

This is just shameful.
