Remembering Larry

On the occasion of Lawrence Summers stepping down from the Harvard presidency, I thought it  appropriate to recall some of the wit and wisdom of his earlier years:

"I've always thought that countries in Africa are vastly underpolluted; their air quality is probably vastly inefficiently low compared to Los Angeles or Mexico City."

That remark of his is completely idiotic. Maybe he's just not as smart as us girls...

Wow.......I've heard that quote before, attributed to a former Chief Economist of the World Bank. It bowled me over then. I just never realized that THAT Larry Summers was the World Bank stooge in question.

Here's something I wonder about...how do universities like Harvard manage to keep the educational reputation they have when they employ utter morons like this windbag? Daniel Pipes' dad Richard was on the history faculty for a while, too (he's with Yale now, I think) and Pipes senior is just as much of a loony toon as Pipes junior is, only about "eeevil Soviets" instead of "eeevil Muslims".

I really do wonder what kids leaving some of these ivy league schools actually learn at them.

Summers is not actually a moron. He is reputedly extremely arrogant, and that arrogance comes through in that quote. But that's a long way from moron.
