Donna Shalala's gardeners join janitors' strike
The gardeners who tend to University of Miami President Donna Shalala's personal residence have joined their UNiCCO coworkers on strike. The maintenance workers at the University of Miami are fighting for better wages and healthcare benefits.
You can help them by writing to Shalala, or calling her office at (305) 284-5155 to ask her to mandate that UNICCO pay the janitors a living wage. Members of the University of Miami community can show their support for the janitors by signing this petition.
Can understand supporting this strike, but why is it important that these two guys are participating?

Phantom--
I don't know about "important," but I find it interesting. While it's amusing to think of Shalala having to straddle a Toro and mow her own spacious lawn, what I like about this is the idea that people that she probably interacts with regularly have let her know what they think about the strike. Sometimes, you have to personalize things to change a person's heart.

To support the strike just do not cross the picket line.

Donna Shanana was a Clinton admin sell out, big supporter of the War on Drugs and the junk science and propaganda that underlies it. No true "liberal", despite her ethnicity and academic background. New boss same as the old boss, IOW.

If only they could hire some illegal immigrants to replace them.

How were their wages when the last president was there?? This is ridiculous....Maybe if people went to school and got an education and did as much for other people as Donna does, then maybe they would make over 7 bucks an hour! Until then quit whining....a Janitor is never going to make an awesome salary sorry to say....go to school, get educated, and get a real job. Donna deserves what she gets, She earned it.
