If only all comic books depicted the super-human form in neo-Millerian style....

Let those who worship evil's might beware my power, Green Lantern's...

Some decades ago, Larry Niven wrote a cautionary essay about Superman, Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex.

OT. Ted, that reminds me of another classic SF story, by C.M. Kornbluth; The Little Black Bag, published 1950.

Storyline; the ultimate dumbing down of out species. Seems less far-fetched now than when I first read it.

I had always heard that there was nothing special about the Green Lantern. He was just a guy in a suit - but what a suit!

This reminds of an SNL spoof commercial of several years ago--for "Schlitz Gay." Two gay friends use Schlitz Gay somehow or other to conjure up a bunch of handsome body builders. The camera then zooms in the bodybuilders' crotches, in a manner very commonly used with the breasts and groins of beautiful female models. It was meant to be off-putting, and embarrassing to males like me who are at least mildly entertained by such camera stunts used on an attractive female body. For me, it succeeded; though rather than dispense with such depictions of the female form, I'd be happy with a comparable number of treatments of the male physique, for those who want to see them.
