Our Dear Leader's crowning achievement

The most powerful man in the world told a German newspaper that the highlight of his six years as President of the United States of America was that time he caught a relatively good-sized fish in his private lake:

"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5lb (3.4kg) perch in my lake," he told Bild am Sonntag. [BBC]

He also said that he's starting to understand that the World Cup is important to a lot of people.

Hat tip to demswin06.

Update: Tristero on the president's lofty perch, some fishy fun from Attaturk, and Idealistic Pragmatist wonders what the president is giving exclusive interviews to sub-tabloids like Bild-Zeitung in the first place.

Back when bush was about to start his first term, SNL had a skit in which the preznit was protrayed as childish, almost unaware of what was going on but delighted that he had a new puppy...Sad place to look to for prohecy.

Then he dropped that puppy on the scalding tarmac...

I did some checking on this (I'm a German-English bilingual), and it's all true. And as I say over at my own blog, it turns out that the "newspaper" in question is one whose closest North American analogy would be a cross between the National Enquirer and a far trashier version of the Canadian Sun series.

He also said that he's starting to understand that the World Cup is important to a lot of people.

Let's just say that he'd better not be planning on any international diplomacy between June and early July. The rest of the world is busy.

I think that Bush has a very good chance of being right. Really, what would you say that he's achieved that's better than this? I would say that his catching a big fish is a slightly bad thing, but most of the things he's done have been worse, so Bush's appraisal is probably correct.
