Sunday Sermonette: Prayer at gunpoint not just for Muslims

This week, the right wing has been going on and on about Islam's long tradition of forced conversion.

I'm waiting for the flurry of articles about Christianity's long standing issues with gunpoint prayer:

ATHENS, Ala. (AP) -- A woman and two roommates are accused of holding her brother at gunpoint as she prayed for his repentance, even firing a shot into the ceiling to keep his attention.

Randy Doss, 46, of Athens said he fled the house when his captors got distracted and later went to police, who were skeptical at first because his story was so bizarre. But police said it checked out, including the bullet hole in the ceiling.

"We found where they patched the hole with caulk," said Sgt. Trevor Harris.

Police said the sister, Tammie Lee Doss, 43, Donna Leigh Bianca, 37, and Ronald David Richie, 45, who live at the Athens house, were charged with unlawful imprisonment, a misdemeanor. The two women were also charged with menacing, a misdemeanor. All were released on bond.

Harris said Randy Doss went to the house about 7 p.m. on Labor Day and at some point got in an argument with the two women about religion. When they prayed for him, he laughed.

"They both got upset and pointed pistols at him," Harris said. "They wouldn't let him leave. Bianca fired one round in the ceiling in the hallway a few feet from the victim's head."

DO NOT make light of Commando Jesus(not to be confused with Jesus General, who maketh great scriptures).

Love those family values in the red states!

clearly there are people that don't want the 9/11 motives known.
ABC's movie just lied saying that bin laden said the attacks would continue "until you convert to Islam"
this movie is very ugly propaganda

what bin Laden has said has been crystal clear.

"We swore that America wouldn't live in security until we live it truly in Palestine. This showed the reality of America, which puts Israel's interest above its own people's interest. America won't get out of this crisis until it gets out of the Arabian Peninsula, and until it stops its support of Israel." -Osama bin Laden, October 2001

"... the Mujahideen saw the black gang of thugs in the White House hiding the truth, and their stupid and foolish leader, who is elected and supported by his people, denying reality and proclaiming that we (the Mujahideen) were striking them because we were jealous of them (the Americans), whereas the reality is that we are striking them because of their evil and injustice in the whole of the Islamic World, especially in Iraq and Palestine and their occupation of the Land of the Two Holy Sanctuaries." -Osama Bin Laden , February 14 , 2003

No one should be suppressing the facts.

What motivated the 9/11 hijackers?
The video shows the 9/11 Commission Hearing where the question "What motivated them to do it?" was finally asked. See FBI Special Agent Fitzgerald explain the motive. This testimony was kept out of the 9/11 Commission Report and no recommendation was given to address the main motive for the 9/11 attacks.

Uh, why does Alabama consider "unlawful imprisonment" a misdemeanor????

Also, as far as forced conversions are concerned, two words come to mind: "Indian school". Fundies is as fundies does.

Lindsay, a few months ago you posted that it looked like Hamas was willing to recognize Israel and was willing to negotiate. I left a comment then that you were premature. But now it looks like Hamas has actually done it. See http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/761369.html

This decision by Hamas was a requirement for the formation of a Palestinian government- and the Ha'aretz article says that a Hamas-Fatah "unity government" is close to formation.

As the alternative would have been Palestinian civil war, this is good news.

I can see false imprisonment for so short a period of time being a misdemeanor, but why is pointing a pistol at someone and discharging it into the ceiling to show you're serious just a misdemeanor? I would have thought that felonious aggravated assault!

You wouldn't think 'I was just shooting for emphasis' would get you so much slack, but different strokes for weirdass states.

It's a wonder Dr. Thompson never found out about this and moved to Alabama. It's a statute I'd image him making use of.
