Damned right they can keep you forever

Did you know that the US is still holding a guy they picked up on a sweep after 9/11 in Arizona, without charge?

The Associated Press has learned that Ali Partovi is still in custody five years after he and 1,200 other Arab and Muslim men were rounded up after 9/11.

Partovi is representing himself in several civil rights lawsuits. He reports being tortured in prison.

Partovi is currently housed at the Florence Correctional Facility in Arizona. The government insists that Partovi is the last detainee from the 9/11 sweeps, but several other arrestees remain unaccounted for.

In other habeas corpus news, AP photographer Bilal Hussein is still being held without charge in a US prison camp. The Pentagon is refusing pleas from the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Associated Press to charge Mr. Hussein with a crime or release him. Hussein is one of an estimated 14,000 people being held by the US without charges.

If you don't like me, I must be doing something right!

You are advocating torture and mass murder.

This conversation is you trying every trick you can think of to normalize the monstrous nature of your position. In part you do that by running away from it (as when you attack your critics).

What's left is just arguing over your choice of euphemism.

Reading your essays is monstrous torture! I seek immediate assistance from Amnesty International.

And, not for nothing, I oppose torture, and not just mass murder, even "just" murder of one person.

Your denial is inconsistent with what you've previously said in support of US policies. Is this then a retraction of your support?

Here's the difference between you and me Phantom. I stand behind what I say. But you know you can't do that because what you say is immoral and beneath contempt. So you play these games back and forth.

Would you like to just quit the games and come out and say, yes you like the idea of torturing and murdering a bunch of darkies? That torture and murder are good if they are commited by the Great Leader? Let's go kick some sand nigger ass? Isn't that what you really want to say? Why don't you just say you think it's "us or them" so let's go kill them all?

But you insist on playing these games because you are afraid to stand up for what you beleive in.

Fine then:

You oppose murder? Well then you must opppose the US war in Iraq and the so-called war on terror. Both crimes that lead to the deaths of many.

DavidByron

The War on Terror is necessary. I support it completely. Let there be no doubt, amigo.

Phantom

Well then we're back to you advocating torture and mass murder.

"Let there be no doubt"? LOL, every other comment by you contradicts the one before it. Just as I said: you are too cowardly to stick to your guns. You're full of ambiguity and deceit and double dealing.

Everything you say is game playing. Why can't you face your accusers squarely? Do you even believe the words that come out of your own mouth?

You didn't object to my simple observation:

You oppose murder? Well then you must oppose the US war in Iraq and the so-called war on terror. Both crimes that lead to the deaths of many.

How could you?

Would you claim nobody died in the war?

Would you claim the war wasn't criminal?

Would you claim that killing someone during the course of commiting a crime is not murder?

All non-starters for you so ofcourse you just play your games. Do you believe in anything at all Phantom? You come across as someone with no integrity.

"Let there be no doubt"

What a joke.

I disagree with virtually all of your premises--there's no point in having another extended internet flameout.

I shall magnanimously grant you the last word. Do your worst.

Phantom (Moral Monster!)

Let there be no doubt, amigo.

Your position is morally repugnant and indefensible.

That's a message I won't be reversing in my next comment, or backing away from if challenged.

Phantom and other members of the fascist right have tried to sell this as it applies to "non-citizens" only... and that is a lie!

From the Tuesdays KO show with Constitutional Law Professor John Turley:

JONATHAN TURLEY, GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY CONSTITUTIONAL LAW PROFESSOR: Thanks, Keith.

OLBERMANN: I want to start by asking you about a specific part of this act that lists one of the definitions of an unlawful enemy combatant as, quote, “a person who, before, on, or after the date of the enactment of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, has been determined to be an unlawful enemy combatant by a combatant status review tribunal or another competent tribunal established under the authority of the president or the secretary of defense.”

Does that not basically mean that if Mr. Bush or Mr. Rumsfeld say so, anybody in this country, citizen or not, innocent or not, can end up being an unlawful enemy combatant?

TURLEY: It certainly does. In fact, later on, it says that if you even give material support to an organization that the president deems connected to one of these groups, you too can be an enemy combatant.

And the fact that he appoints this tribunal is meaningless. You know, standing behind him at the signing ceremony was his attorney general, who signed a memo that said that you could torture people, that you could do harm to them to the point of organ failure or death.

So if he appoints someone like that to be attorney general, you can imagine who he‘s going be putting on this board.

Rasputin

As they kept saying to my main man Snake Plissken, I thought you were dead!

And how many citizens have been declared enemy combatants to date? Jose Padilla and who else?

"Rasputin

As they kept saying to my main man Snake Plissken, I thought you were dead!

And how many citizens have been declared enemy combatants to date? Jose Padilla and who else?"
The Phantom

Well Phantom... that is exactly the point now isn't it? With secret prisons and no over-sight no one actually knows now do they?

Welcome back Rasputin--

Thanks 1984...

I just had a hip replacement done and its good to be off hospital food and near a computer again. Besides... I couldn't let you folks have all the fun with Phantom now could I? He's so predictable!

I'm so predictable?

Please forward one post/comment (other than from me and damned few others that:

speaks of
the importance of the war on terror
the threat of Islamic imperialism
(lets not bother with other issues)

Don't bother. There are zero such posts and few such comments. Dont worry, they're only the two most important issues the world faces today.

That we may define as predictable. Please, let the whataboutry begin.

>good to be off hospital food and near a computer again.

Yikes! Well then double-welcome back, and hope you're feeling better and knitting up well.

While you were gone, Phantom and I got pretty mad at one another, but then made a truce, so I can't bear to rip into him at the moment.

Get well soon!
