Update: Mom just emailed to ask why I have a link to a page of memorable quotes from Annie Hall. That's a good question. Here's the quote that I was referencing with the title of the post... It's not actually trua about sharks - at least most species can sit still without dying.

I read a great article about "sleeping" sharks in National Geographic many years ago. It seems a cave diver who had always believed the myth about sharks came upon large numbers of them sitting motionless in caves. It is suspected that the strong gradient from fresh to salt water played tricks on the sharks' very acute sensory organs and made them high. They were docile and motionless, but very much alive.
