Tripoli 6: Free at last

The six foreign medics wrongfully accused of infecting Libyan children with HIV have been freed after more than eight years in prison. [NYT]

Good news for the nurses. Sort of - eight years of sweating bullets is a long time. They’ve probably ground all the enamel off their molars. From the article it sounds like Libya was holding out for the best deal it could get. Appalling. From the moment the world became aware of HIV, the reaction everywhere has never ceased to be appalling. From day one epidemiology has struggled to compete with superstition and general insanity. Is there a starker case of science versus ignorance?
