You know, before Americans start complaining about leaders like Qadafi, they need to take a good hard look in the mirror.

In the last decades, how many people around the world have died due to our pursuit of our ideological goals? Hundreds of thousands? Millions? I'm sure that the total deaths caused by Qadafy's Libya is a tiny fraction of that total. Supporting terrorism is bad; invading countries and causing massive mayhem for no reason is worse. Let's not even talk about the violence done by the U.S. to other populations by non-military means--economic sanctions, austerity programs and the rest.

It is true that Qadafy made a bizarre speech--his age is showing, I guess. Believe it or not, there was at time when he was a gallant, admirable revolutionary fighting effectively against oppressive European colonialism. Like most dictators, he has demonstrated why endless power for politicians is a bad idea. And his son does behave badly. But it seems that Americans are using him to feel better about themselves, to prove how good they are. And that's magical thinking. It's not real.

Americans need to look in the mirror before they start shrieking about Iran, Venezuela, Libya and elsewhere.

John, Gaddafi never held as much power as the US did. The regimes that held more comparable levels of power, such as the Soviet Union or Maoist China, did manage to kill many more than the US, by an order of magnitude.

And there's nothing admirable about blowing up airlines.

This is an outrage and insult to the U.S. and western society. He should not be allowed to set foot in this country. With enough pressure I believe the American people can keep him out.
