And the winner is... (New blog name)

The name of the new blog is "Focal Point," as suggested by Windy Pundit. It's professional-sounding, easy to spell, devoid of unwanted psychosexual undertones, and brands both the photography and the writing. I love it.

My first post on The Big Think will go live on Monday morning.

Outstanding.
I was trying to come up with a variant on "lens flare" conflating lens/Lindsay and flare/flair but Focal Point is perfect.

Good choice!

Will I need to add a new RSS feed, or will Focal Point posts show up here?

This seems to be a dis on your current name. I was unaware that there was any problem with it.

Bill, I think you'll need to add a new RSS, but this URL will automatically redirect to Big Think starting on Monday, so it should be easy.

homunq, my current name has been a lot of fun over the years, but the blog has grown to the point where the name is becoming a liability. When I picked it, I never imagined that anyone would say it out loud. Now that I do radio and TV, it's a problem, because announcers don't want to say it on the air.

When I picked it, I never imagined that anyone would say it out loud.

You didn't? Maybe my mind's just permanently lodged in the seventh grade, but "Majikthise" just can't sound like anything other than what it sounds like.

That's a good name, but I don't think anything is devoid of unwanted psychosexual undertones.

I knew how it was pronounced. As long as people know how it's spelled, it's just a goofy Douglas Adams joke geared to the geeky seventh grader in all of us. But if you just say it without spelling it out, people get the wrong idea.

Not having been a seventh grader for decades, I never understood what "majikthise" meant or how to say it. I bet I'm not the only one! The blog name belies its content, however.

For a lot of years, I pronounced Majikthise with the correct vowels but the wrong stress, and I didn't voice the final s. I didn't get the Magic Thighs angle until Gordo put you on the blogroll of Appletree under that name. And I was only a couple years beyond seventh grade...

Focal Point has its psychosexual connotations, too - just think of the point as being at the end of the line. It's just way less overt when it's spoken.

Great new name. Congratulations on the new page. 'Majikthise' always puts humor and philosophy together, reminding me the hatrack also thinks, when it is turned on. I will miss that but it is time to move on.
